Message 174 - Saranya Gogineni
Dear Priti and Srikanth, Congratulations on all the patience and hard work you have put in. We have a small parcel of land in Hoskote. I have always been told that organic farming there is not possible as the surrounding farms are dumping pesticides and fertilizers. Our land is lying unused at the moment. Please can you let me know your thoughts on this. Can i try to do some Organic farming there ? Thank you in advance.

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Nataraj,

Mantis Minitiller: Dear Srikanth, Doesnt tilling go against the natural farming ? Isnt it detrimental to earth worms which are natures tillers ? Thanks, Yash
16 January 2012 - bangaloe

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Yash,
Yes, you are right. Tilling against natural farming principles. I have still not been successful growing vegetables without tilling and de-weeding. I have not seen any impact to earthworms, because of tilling in the small patch. I guess use of fertilizer and pesticide has bigger negative impact to earthworms. Regards

Hi Srikant and Priti, Excellent and very much impressed with what you guys are upto. :-) I too bought a piece of land very recently near Mandya and have been reading/researching a lot of material on and off the net (just finished reading One Straw Revolution!) and accidentally stumbled upon Vanashree. It is great to see more and more people from other professions venturing into agriculture, especially understanding the benefit of organic farming in general. Currently I am working in US and will plan to visit your farm when I come down. Pl. keep continue to share your thoughts and experiences so that novice people like me can benefit from it. :-) Thanks and good luck Biju
4 January 2012 - Santa Cruz, CA, USA

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Biju,
Wonderful to know that you too have similar passion as us. 'One Straw Revolution" had enormous impact on how we look at various things around us. We too started as novice and continue to be novices in front of "Nature". You are welcome to visit us when you are in this part of the world and look forward to seeing you in person. In the meantime you can keep checking on the website for my regularly irregular updates. Regards - Srikanth

Hi Srikanth, Fyi. I just copied the list of trees from your website. Hope you don't mind. Thanks for the info given. Trying to find these uncommon trees to plant them in our farm. Will come back to you if I need more info about where to find them. Thanks again.

Srikanth's Reply   Dear Madhu,
You are welcome to use any part of the website as you deem fit. All information on website is "copy righted"...meaning every body has right to copy. Since you are greatly interested in trees, would strongly recommend S.G.Neginhals "Forest Trees of the Western Ghats" avaialable in most shops or you can get from him personally. Keep in touch. Dear Preeti & Srikanth, Thank you very much for opening doors to a world that is eco-friendly, sustainable and truly inspiring !!! Our experience at Vanashree has had a very positive impact on us and makes us believe that if each one of us were to do our bit in utilizing the earth’s resources judiciously and carefully, it will go a long way in protecting our home-the Earth, and the diverse flora and fauna that together make up our world. Gobar Gas based cooking fuel, Rainwater harvesting, Mulching, Inter-cropping, Bee-keeping - there is so much to learn and appreciate at Vanshree ! Thank you both for being such wonderful hosts to our children at Parikrma. All the Best to you both !! Best Regards, Aparna Parikrma Humanity Foundation

At my 34, I slipped into agriculture in blindfold and felt sustainable in farming only after attending palekar's workshop. All I found agriculture is, its THE PATH of life. Encouraging articles and sources from you. Thanks to you and your right hand's family. Commonly, the labours will hesitate to follow natural farming because of their belief in depending on chemical fertilizers and pest control.

Srikanth's Reply   Dear Harish Jois,
Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. One of the beautiful things we have experienced with farming has been coming closer to nature and keeping us grounded. As you said, farming is a way of life. Very nice to hear that you have attended Palekar's. Shanmukha has been my partner in things that we have been able to achieve. Do keep in touch. Best Wishes - Srikanth & Priti

Hi Srikanth, I am a working professional from Bangalore. Your website have load of information which I was searching all these days. Love what you guys are doing.I too have a similiar dream and a farm in the Pallani Hills, near Kodaikanal. We will be developing our farm using Permaculture methods - I was interested to know whether you ahve used any of its principles in Vanashree?
10 August 2011 - Kodaikanal, India

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Simrit,
Glad to know another fellow farmer into similar activities. We have used some of the elements of permaculture. Intercropping and Mixed cropping are two critical elements of permaculture. Intecropping various pulses an dcereals have been successfully for centuries. We have also tried growing multiple vegetables simultaneously too. Regards - Srikanth

Hi Srikant and Priti Need a suggestion from you as you are in the farming field .We are looking for some farm land near harohalli in Kelingere.Just want to know is it worth buying in this area?
25 July 2011 - Bangalore,India

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Vidya,
Our land is about 12 kms from Harohalli. But I have not heard of Kelingere, so not sure which direction it is in. The land around Harohalli is very fertile and gets good rainfall thru' the year. So it boils down to liking of the area and affordability. Regards - Srikanth

Hello, It's really nice to see your website and the information you have provided. I have a question on the house you have built. Are we required to get any permission or what size of a house we can build in the farm. We are getting into farming and planning to build 2 rooms around 400sft. Please let me know if we need any permission
13 December 2010 - Mysore

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Madhu,
Yes you need permission from local village panchayat for constructing the house. Also there are restrictions in terms of size of the house that can be built. 400 sft house should not be an issue. It will be better for you conatct one of the village elders localy and get it done. Thx - Srikanth

Srikanth's Reply   Hi Shreesh,
Happy Diwali to you too...and very glad to see positive developments on your side too. I have still not got hold of the hard copy of Indian Express article. It was susrprising to see so many people from IT background moving to farming and quite sure you will also make that successful switch. Warm Regards - Srikanth

Dear Priti and Srikant, I happened to see your website while I was looking for the botanical name of Muthuga. I am part of a group interested in looking at the viability of organic farming as livelihood for marginal farmers. In fact, three of us have been tasked to write a brief paper on the development of organic farming in South India and the challenges involved in projects aimed to promote it among marginal farmers. Two or three of us would like to visit your farm when you are there, but we will give you sufficient notice.Best of luck for all the good work.
